Between king Leopold circa 1884, and Bob Geldorf in 2005, the collective African economy has swung on an erratic pendulum between the extremes of western altruism (abolishment of slave trade probably ranks the highest) and extremely selfish interests (IMF policies and toxic waste dumping on African shorelines take the cake here). The African state of mind resonates in tandem along the same erratic path, from extreme gratitude to extreme distrust, creating a weirdly subjective experience of reality – reducing the African to a comatose participant in the entire European-African charade. Yes, I agree completely with William Easterly – Africa is not in command of the save-Africa campaigns; she’s merely been a peon in an epic western pissing contest.

...Africa keeps rejecting western technology just like the human immuno system would reject a transplanted organ. So the focus shifts to "indigenization" of western technology in Africa -- Technology doesn't exist in limbo, the different sectors of the national economy feeds off each other: commerce will be limited by poor transportation infrastructure, social amenities and overall quality of life will be limited by national unemployment rates, and ICT adoption will be limited by massive poverty of the African populace. It's a chicken and egg situation...
